The core of our program is to provide the girls of Stamford an opportunity to learn the sport of lacrosse in a fun, positive, safe and competitive environment. The emphasis of our philosophy is the development of fundamental skills, sense of teamwork, fair play and to honor the game. Honoring the game of lacrosse includes RESPECT for the rules of the game, our teammates, opponents, coaches and referees.
We are inclusive of players of all abilities. It’s always a good time to pick up a stick and learn how to play. Every year we see new players at ALL grade levels. We will provide each player with instructions that is best suited based on their skills and needs. At the end of the day, we want to foster the love of the game that we grew up playing.
Our coaches are made up of volunteers and paid coaches. All of whom have played in high school or college. They all bring their expertise, energy and enthusiasm and there unwavering dedication to teach all the girls the game of lacrosse.
K – 2nd Grade (Bantam)
This group will be clinic based meeting once a week, typically on Sunday afternoons at Westhill Lower Turf Field. They will learn the basics of cradling, scooping, catching and throwing. Often this will be accomplished through “hidden” drill where they will learn a skill through fun games. As they progress throughout the season they will end up playing short field, 6v6 inter squad scrimmages on a cross field.
One of the exciting part of this group is that the coaches will be high school girls who have come through our program and want to give back. The little ones really respond to the “big” girls and have a ton of fun in the process. We will have a parent volunteer who will oversee the clinic as well as communicate with parents.
3rd-4th Grade (Lightning)
This group will meet twice during the week for practice (typically 6pm-8pm) and games on the weekend. Emphasis will be on the fundamentals, cradling, scooping, catching, throwing and rules of the game. Additionally they will start to learn the concept of spacing on the field, defensive and offensive positioning. Games and practices will be held at Westhill and Stamford High Schools.
5th-6th Grade (Junior)
The junior girls will practicetwice during the week (typically 6pm-8pm) and play a full travel schedule. The term “travel” is not used in the traditional sense. Everyone registered in our program will make a team. We do not cut anyone. When possible, we will group girls with similar skills and abilities on the same team. Games will played against other CONNY (Connecticut New York Youth Lacrosse Association) member teams with like ability as well. The goal of each game scheduled is to have it as evenly matched as possible. Games and practices will be held at Westhill and Stamford High Schools.
7th – 8th Grade (Seniors)
